South Yorkshire Teaching Partnership

The South Yorkshire Teaching Partnership (SYTP) required an online portfolio platform to host the work of their various levels of social work training, ranging from students to recently qualified Social Workers.
The client
The South Yorkshire Teaching Partnership (SYTP) is a social work education partnership between 8 councils and universities. They deliver high quality training for social work students and qualified social workers.
The vision
SYTP needed an online platform to host the content for their students and social workers. We decided it would be best to develop an ‘E-Portfolio’ with customisable workflows.
Our approach
We built the platform so that each portfolio has it’s own unique steps, verification processes and permissions. To prevent duplication of work and ensure each workflow could be unit tested fully and was fail-free, we developed a bespoke system within the application that allows any number of custom workflows to be set up for the current portfolios and any needed in the future.
The platform
At the time of writing, there are 3 portfolio types of work within the platform: Student Social Workers, ASYE Children’s Social Work and ASYE Adults Social Work. Each strand has it’s own unique steps, verification processes and permissions. To prevent duplication of work and ensure each workflow could be unit tested fully and was fail-free, we developed a bespoke workflow system within the application that allows any number of custom workflows to be set up for the current strands of work and any needed in the future. The custom workflows are configured in code giving greater flexibility than a UI driven approach and ensuring we can test and verify each step before deployments.
